WA Hiking Expo 2023 Please refer to this link: https://www.wahikingexpo.com.au for more information Many hiking groups and outdoor equipment companies will be represented at the Hiking Expo and it is free to attend! Our club will be hosting a stall as well as leading several bushwalks around the Perth Hills Discovery Centre. We will also host a number of activities catering to children and families with young children. You are welcome to attend the event as a visitor. But better yet, please volunteer as a representative of the WAFBC because we need help at our stall even for a few hours. For more information on volunteering, please contact us. This is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.- Each parent or guardian is responsible for his own safety and for the safety of the children under their care, and participates in activities of the Club at their own risk. Club insurance covers adults members of the club only. It is the responsibility of each parent or guardian to ensure that they have adequate water, clothing, rain and sun protection, footwear, first-aid kit and food for themselves and their children on each activity. Non-members may attend any day-activity upon the payment of the prescribed fee. This fee can then be used to offset against the membership fee for the same year the event was held. Only paid up members are permitted on overnight activities and member only events. Each adult may bring a maximum of three children on a Club activity unless prior arrangement is made with the organiser of the activity. The Western Australian Family Bushwalking Club Inc and its members accept no liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising from any cause whatever as a result of participation in Club activities. Sorry, no pets allowed on Club activities. War toys are not welcome on Club activities. Please encourage your children to respect the bush and wildlife, and remember: ‘Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs.’ All members are able to, and are encouraged to, organise their own club events. The following policy applies to sharing photographs, especially on web-sites. That by joining the club you accept that photographs and videos may be taken of your family. That these photographs and videos maybe posted on the clubs private photo-sharing site and/or the club’s newsletter, albeit there would also be the right to request that particular photographs / videos be removed. That persons are discouraged from posting photographs or videos of members and their children on other social networking / photo-sharing sites without the consent of the persons or their guardians. That persons in the photographs / videos must not be identified in any description attached to photographs / videos that are posted on the photo / video-sharing site.

April Camp at Barrabup Santuary (Members Only). Peta is organizing the Easter camp this year at Barrabup Sanctuary, Nannup. This is a private campground next to the river and off the beaten track. This is the real bush experience. There is an undercover area for cooking, basic BBQ and camp fire, but please bring your camp cooking equipment, stove and oven etc. Available are flusing toilet and shower facilities with hot water. There is access to the Blackwood River, and there is a wonderful swimming spot nearby. We are close to Nannup town for resupplies. In previous years, we have a hunt for the Nannup tiger and Easter eggs. There are short hiking tracks nearby and we have organised riddles for the children to solve. What to bring: Tent, Camper, Trailer, Swag. Sleeping equipment. Cooking equipment. Drinking and cooking water. However, I have been told potable water is now available on site. Food for the 4 days. Portagabra Track, Mundaring

Portagabra Track, Mundaring The Portagabra Track takes walkers though some beautiful jarrah forest, winding its way past granite outcrops and majestic grass trees, with stunning views of the Helena Valley River and Mundaring Weir. The walk features beautiful wildflowers between August and November and is suitable for all skill levels. The trail begins at the red/white trailhead sign in Fred Jacoby Park and then heads underneath the historic Mundaring to Kalgoorlie pipeline and into the forest. Please note dogs are not allowed on the trail as it's in a national park. Distance is 3.5 km, About 1 hour Meet at the start of the walk where you walk under the pipe, at Fred Jacoby Park, Hampel Road, Mundaring, 48 min (40.4 km) via National Highway 94. Please be punctual as we will not wait no more than 15mins. Difficulty - Moderate level of fitness and experience required. 
Bush Walk: Grade 3 - Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections a rough surface and many steps. Walks up to 20km. Reptile Presentation

Reptile Presentation Depending on interest, we will invite a herpetologist to educate and entertain our children. Tessa (Tessa's Reptile Service) will bring several snakes, lizards and frogs and teach us all about them. Everyone who wishes to will be able to hold the snakes and lizards. There will be lots of time for interaction. Presentation will be 3-4.30pm, but those who wish to can stay on afterwards for picnic and swim. We will meet on the grassed area south side of the cafe, where the 2 jetties are. Mandurah camp (Members Only) Including Giants, Art & craft, fishing/crabbing March 3rd-6th coincides with a long weekend so there is no excuse for not joining us at Mandurah Caravan Park for our March long weekend camp. A variety of accommodation styles are available at the caravan park to suit families, including those who prefer not to tent. Please check their website for more information. Torbay Beach Camp 2023 (Members Only)
 Torbay Beach Camp at Camp Kennedy was the Club's premier annual event on the south coast west of Albany (http://www.campkennedy.com) and we are bringing it back again!
 It is an absolute beachfront holiday. Past activities at the camp have included Talent show Evening, walks, swimming, canoeing, boogie boarding, fishing, coffee drinking at local cafe, etc. As in previous years, the site is deemed alcohol and smoking free.
 Families stay in separate 'hut'. The huts have a bed base and mattress but little else – they are really basic. You will have the use of the shared Outdoor kitchen/BBQ area, dish washing area with running water, fridge & freezers and the ablution blocks. There is also a fee-paying washing machine and clothe lines for laundry. Dining hall has tables and benches. Due to COVID restriction, you will need to provide your own cooking pots and serving plates and utensils.
 For 2023, the indicative prices are:     •    Dorms is $20/n for Adult and $15/n for Children.
     •    Camping at unpowered site is $14/n for Adult and $12/n for Children.
     •    Powered site is $17/n for Adult and $14/n for Children. There are only two sites.

     •    Then register your intention here with WAFBC so we know who is going.
 ***Interested families needs to book directly with the Camp Manager, please book early to avoid disappointment! *** The accommodation will be given on a first come first serve basis. Unlike previous years, we no longer have exclusive use of the entire camp ground. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out time is 11.00am.
Each family may be given a cleaning rooster for cleaning bathroom, dining hall etc.

 Each family is encouraged to host a group based activity, such as going to the beach or coffee at Cozy Corner.
 I will organise an Overnight hike to a Bibulmum shelter and return the next morning, if there are interest.

Bibbulmen: Camp Kennedy to Torbay Overnight Hike (Members only)

Camp Kennedy to Torbay Campsite Overnight Hike on the Bibbulmen (Members only) Whilst we are Camping at Camp Kennedy, we will organise an overnight hike from Camp Kennedy to Torbay Campsite on the Bibbulmen Track. This is a easy ~8km return overnight walk suitable for walkers of all experience. It is especially suitable for adults and children wanting to do an overnight hike for the first time to shake down their gear. Starting at Camp Kennedy around 2pm, the first section is on the beach until Cosy Corner, where we will head inland towards the Torbay Campsite. The Campsite is on an elevated location affording a great view of the setting sun over the Southern Ocean. We return the next morning via the same route. Expect to be back around 8am. Please consult the whiteboard in the mess hall at Camp Kennedy for up to date information. Date and time are to be confirmed at Camp Kennedy. Cost: Free, but only available to member at camping at Torbay. Handy knots for camping and hikng - Hands On Tutorial (Members Only)

Torbay Camp Activity: Handy Knots for Camping, hiking and home (Members Only) This is a hands-on is mainly for adults to get up to speed with useful knots. Participants are encouraged to bring piece(s) of rope, eg Grunt 3ø x 20m Rope from Bunnings as this is a hands-on activity. There is a Bunnings in Albany or please buy in Perth.  We will learn how to, String up a ridge line to set up a tarp shelter. Finish a rope with Figure-8. Hang your food bag in the air to keep it away from animals: PCT Bear Hang. Tie a shoelace that won't come undone whilst hiking. Guy a line without hardware How to roll up your rope. Knots we will review are: Double Fisherman Prusik Bowline Trucker's Hitch Half Hitch Clove Hitch Berluti Taut line Figure-8 Bring: Cordage of any dimensions, you will need at least 1x ~0.3m , 1x ~0.5m and 1x ~3m cordage to string up a ridge line between trees and to hang a food bag over a tree branch.
